How to Build an EarthCraft House |
| To certify an EarthCraft House, a builder must do all of the following: |

Become a registered EarthCraft House builder - see Start Building
Eevery house to be certified must meet the following requirements:
- Each house must score a minimum of 150 points on the Scoring Worksheet.*
- Each house must have the plans and a Manual J based on orientation submitted.
- Each house must meet ENERGY STAR certification criteria
- Each house must have a Pre-drywall Inspection by an EarthCraft House inspector.
- Each house must pass a Final Inspection by an EarthCraft House inspector.
*Houses achieving sufficient scores on the Scoring Worksheet may be eligible for higher levels of certification (EarthCraft House Select and EarthCraft House Premium).
Each builder will be assigned one or more EarthCraft House inspectors. The builder will schedule all Final Inspections directly with the assigned inspector(s). A scoring worksheet must be completed prior to the final inspection along with any documentation indicated on the final worksheet. If the home does not pass the final inspection, the builder must schedule a re-inspection in order to certify the house.
Example: EarthCraft House for new homes
The new home program provides opportunities to earn points in twelve different categories. Each home must score a minimum of 150 points. The categories are:

• Resource Efficient Design
• Resource Efficient Building Materials
• Waste Management
• Indoor Air Quality
• Water Conservation (Indoor and Outdoor)
• Homeowner Education
• Builder Operations
• Innovation Points
These guidelines are flexible to allow for a variety of approaches to environmental construction. EarthCraft House inspectors provide builders with one-on-one technical assistance, inspections and diagnostic testing on every home.
