Clark’s Grove is a new neighborhood in the City of Covington that was designed with community and environment in mind.  As a “traditional neighborhood development,” or TND, the design of Clark’s Grove harkens back to a time when residents walked to the corner store and stopped to talk with neighbors sitting on a front porch.  Wide sidewalks, narrow streets, and street trees create a great environment for walking, enabling residents to leave their cars at home.  Clark’s Grove is fully integrated into the beautiful City Center of Covington, and restaurants, shops, and parks are within easy walking distance.  Within the neighborhood are both a Montessori School and an Episcopal Church as well as several live/work units, providing housing, worship, working, and learning options not available in more conventional developments.

One of the most unique features of Clark’s Grove is its community garden, located next to the ball field, mail center, pool, and Montessori school.  The garden is maintained using healthy and environmentally-friendly organic methods.  No synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used, and a diverse range of crops are grown to create a healthy gardening ecosystem.  The garden is a center of community life, creating space for congregating, educating, and cultivating.

Clark’s Grove also paid special attention to the resources and materials onsite during construction.  Trees that could not be preserved were milled on site and used in the construction of neighborhood amenities, such as the pool house and picnic pavilions.  Excavated stone was used for retaining walls and road base.  Rainwater is collected in a 3,000 gallon cistern and used to irrigate the ballfield.  More importantly, 25% of the site has been preserved as greenspace, and a 160 acre natural park sits directly adjacent to the neighborhood.  Trails run throughout Clark’s Grove, past its Wetland Gardens and on to the adjacent Turner Lake Park.  The neighborhood’s sidewalks connect with the existing Covington sidewalks and provide for an easy 1/3 mile walk to the historic town square.
