EarthCraft House Program

EarthCraft House is a voluntary green building program created by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface to serve as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly homes. Established in 1999, EarthCraft House is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the premier green building programs in the country.

EarthCraft House strives to be a leader in sustainable development by providing builders with one-on-one technical assistance as well as thorough inspections and diagnostic testing of every home.

Founded in 1945, the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (Greater Atlanta HBA) is a not-for-profit professional trade association dedicated to promoting, protecting and preserving the homebuilding industry as a viable economic force in the Atlanta area.

Over the course of more than 60 years, the Greater Atlanta HBA has received numerous awards, honors and recognition. The Greater Atlanta HBA serves as the administrative arm of EarthCraft House and provides the base support of its organization to engage builders in this innovative program. Also, the Greater Atlanta HBA provides various building science classes that relate to the EarthCraft House program, including HVAC, mold and indoor air quality workshops.

Founded in 1978, Southface has a longstanding reputation for providing sound environmental education and outreach programs, focused on illustrating the best environmental solutions for the built environment.

Southface has been recognized for excellence by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, American Institute of Architects, American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Georgia Environmental Council, Earth Share of Georgia and numerous other industry and community organizations. Southface began as a grassroots organization and memberships and sponsorships continue to support Southface’s efforts, through tax-deductible contributions to this 501 (c)(3) corporation.

Southface provides technical services for the EarthCraft House program and is involved in every aspect of the EarthCraft process, beginning at design and continuing through initial occupancy. Southface ensures the integrity of every house certified through inspections and diagnostic testing of every certified home. Also, Southface conducts EarthCraft House training for builders, plus classes designed for real estate agents, architects, mortgage lenders and subcontractors.
